Under the agreement, Reliance Retail has full operational control, ensuring all customer data remains in India while Shein functions purely as a technology partner. This comeback aligns with India’s push for local manufacturing, as all products sold under Shein India will be designed and produced domestically, giving a boost to the textile industry.
The relaunch comes after Shein was banned in 2020 over data security concerns. However, with stringent regulations in place, including regular cybersecurity audits, the Indian government has approved the partnership.
The move is expected to intensify competition in India’s budget fashion segment, challenging established players like Flipkart, Amazon, and homegrown brands. As the e-commerce landscape evolves, Reliance aims to strengthen its position in the fast-growing online fashion market.
